1. Mark opened the meeting with introductions
2. Budget Update -Dr. Murray reported on the budget by saying that it is still too early to tell what type of cuts or other budget impacts there may be. The State Legislature has proposed an increase in student fees, and some further cuts to the UCs, but we don’t know exactly what that looks like for Student Health yet.
2. Student Health has requested the following from the Registration Fee Committee:
3. Review of Issues/ideas from last meeting Debbie passed out copies of the minutes and reviewed the issues identified at the first meeting, saying that they fell into two categories. The first category included long-term issues such as staying open later, or having weekend appointments, all of which also require a significant increase in funding or shifting of funds. The other category consists of suggestions for increasing student information and access to information relevant to their health and wellness and accessing services at the Student Health Center.
After some discussion it was decided that the committee would take on some of the issues that are more doable and which could result in an increase in students ability to take care of themselves and access student health services, including making more information available on the web.
4. An update on the SHS web-site was given saying that the prescription refill on-line and appointments on-line should be available by the spring quarter. It was suggested to check and see if the Studentlink site can have a direct link to the SHS web page. Other feedback and suggested changes/updates were given about our current web-site, along with sample pages of useful information from UCSB’s site including emergency info, after hours care, and how to help a friend. There was also some discussion on additional strategies for health education outreach; the ideas included programs on:
5. Where do we go from here: Subcommittees? A subcommittee was formed to deterine where on campus 10-12 of the most common over-the-counter drugs can be found during after-hours or on weekends (when SHS is closed). Reports will be given at the next meeting. Also, at the next meeting we will have a demonstration of the SHS web-site, and possibly from another committee to take the web out to groups to get feedback.
Day/Time/Place of Next Meeting -The next meeting will be Monday March 1st from 12:15-1:15 at Student Health Service Conference room (2nd floor).
