Dr. Brian Murray, Student Health
Introductions and welcome: Gigi opened the meeting by welcoming Margaret Nagase, the dietitian from Housing and Dining Services, and asking SHAC members to introduce themselves. Dining services website was presented to show it's new look and highlight some of the great information available.
Recap of last year's healthy dining survey: Former members and staff described last year's informal healthy dining survey for Margaret, and how it lead to the committee's interest in some sort of a healthy dining campaign.
Discussion of "mini campaign": Margaret told the group that March was national nutrition month and that she would be happy to work on a campaign together. After much discussion it was decided that we will have a mini campaign during the last week or two of March. An identifiable sticker or symbol or table tents will be developed to identify healthy options. Stickers will be placed on the new Fresh-To-You line of salads and sandwiches available at all but one dining facility, and Margaret will see which dining facilities might be interested in participating with some special healthy items offered during the campaign.
Other ideas such as a tickler campaign leading up to the actual campaign was discussed, as well as a quick survey in Spring to see how many saw the campaign, chose an option based on info. provided, etc.
Margaret is going to talk with her folks including marketing to see what might be the best way to get information out to students. She will come to our March 3rd meeting for more planning and discussion.
Other Items: Dr. Murray acknowledged and addressed student's questions about wait times at SHS by saying that most students are seen within 15 minutes of their appointment time, but every once and a while there is someone who ends up waiting longer. Some of the reasons for longer waits included some staffing issues, the number of exam rooms, students given 15 minute appt. for a particular problem, but then when with the doctor there are several issues presented, requiring more than the allotted time.
Next meeting: March 3rd, 3:00 at SHS Conference room
