Today's meeting was to focus on ideas for next year to inform students about healthy eating options, portion sizes, etc. Debbie Pino Saballett said Dining Services was willing to do more projects next year highlighting healthy options.

Below are some ideas discussed:

  • Nutritional comparison of a most frequently sold meal, to a delicious, but healthier meal
  • Something on portion sizes
  • 100/150 calorie snacks sold at the various dining facilities
  • Comparison of something popular with little nutritional value (Big Gulp?) to something with the same calories, but lots more nutrition which is available at the dining facilities (apple and string cheese, half of a sandwich, nuts, yogurt, etc)
  • Continue with Fibert and Fabulosa, but highlight the healthier dining options that are always available, not just specials
  • Coffee w/cream and sugar vs. other healthier energy sources
  • Nutritional breakdown of a typical day (based on most frequently sold breakfast, lunch and dinner items), using the pyramid as a visual to see how the diet stacks up nutritionally, then do the same for a healthier day of meals available at the dining facilities.

Next meeting: TBS - Fall 2006.
