Student Health Service uses a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer (BCA). Utilizing bioelectrical impedance analysis, this machine calculates a person's percentage of body fat. High body fat percentage is directly correlated with increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
We are now offering students the opportunity to have their body fat percentage* measured using the Body Composition Analyzer. The test requires you to stand barefoot (in light clothing) on a scale. The testing process takes approximately ten minutes to complete. You will receive a computer generated analysis with the following information: body weight, body mass index (BMI), percentage body fat, calculated basal metabolic rate (BMR), fat mass, fat-free mass, and total body water. You will be given a sheet that defines the results and you will have a chance to ask the Registered Dietitian any questions you might have regarding the results.
