The Student Health Optometry Department has been in operation since February 1975. Because the department is non-profit, services are provided to students at a low cost. Our mission is to facilitate the retention, academic advancement and graduation of UCSD students by maintaining their maximum eye health.

Denton Kimball, O.D. - Optometrist
Dr. Kimball has been with the Optometry Department since it opened in February 1975. He graduated from UCLA in 1969 with a B.A. in Zoology. He attended UC Berkeley School of Optometry and received his O.D. in 1974.
Yelena Davydova, O.D. - Optometrist
Dr. Davydova graduated from UCSD in 1999 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell biology. She attended Southern California College of Optometry and received her O.D. in 2004. She has been with SHS since 2006.
Robert Whittaker, ABOC - Optician
Robert is a board certified optician who has worked in the field of optometry since 1994. Previous to working at UCSD, Robert worked as an optical lab manager for a local optometrist. Robert has been with SHS since 2000.
Carol Purcell - Optometry Assistant
Carol has been with Student Health Service since 2004.
Lovely Dimalanta - Optometry Assistant
Lovely has been with Student Health Service since 2006.
