Our Radiology Department performs skeletal and chest x-rays to assist our clinicians in diagnosing conditions such as pneumonia, fractures, dislocations, etc.
Radiographers are medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and are trained in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, as well as radiation safety and patient protection.
Our radiology department is inspected by the State of California and is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
See the Cost of Services page for information about X-ray fees. If copies of x-ray films are requested, there is a $6.00 charge regardless of insurance coverage.
No appointment is needed to access the Radiology Department.
Our Clinical Laboratory supports our clinicians' diagnoses through testing and analysis of patient specimens.
The laboratory is licensed by the State of California and the Clinical Laboratory Information Act (CLIA). We are also accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
The SHS laboratory can perform many tests in-house, including basic hematology (complete blood counts), most cultures, pregnancy testing, and urinalysis. Some laboratory tests must be sent to an outside laboratory (Quest Diagnostics).
There is no charge for medically-indicated tests for students with SHIP coverage. For students who have waived SHIP insurance, there is a $15 lab processing fee, and modest charges for individual tests (see the Cost of Services page).
Fasting is required prior to some laboratory tests. Fasting means no food, drink (other than water), or gum for 12 hours prior to the test. Routine medications may be taken with water. DO NOT FAST BEYOND 14 HOURS.
