SHIP - Student Health Insurance Plan 2012-2013

What is SHIP?

The UC Regents made health insurance a mandatory non-academic condition for enrollment. To ensure that all students have adequate health care coverage, including ongoing primary and specialty care, and to satisfy the mandatory health insurance requirement, UCSD automatically enrolls all registered students into the SHIP.

The SHIP is a comprehensive health plan that provides a full range of medical services, including in/out patient services, specialty care, emergency care, hospitalization and mental health care, as well as pharmacy and dental coverage.

How am I enrolled in SHIP?

Each quarter that you enroll in classes at UCSD, your student billing account is automatically charged the fee for SHIP. The fee will appear on your e-bill statement as a separate charge. If you are already covered by another insurance plan and wish to opt out of the SHIP and have the SHIP fee waived, you must apply for a Health Fee Waiver through TritonLink. A new waiver must be submitted for each academic year.

How much does SHIP cost?

Undergraduate: $385.46 per quarter
Graduate and Professional: $594 per quarter

The fee is charged to your student billing account along with other mandatory registration fees each quarter (Fall, Winter and Spring). Coverage for Summer is included in the cost for Spring quarter. Students enrolled in SHIP for Spring quarter have continued coverage for the Summer.

When does SHIP coverage begin and end?

Fall (undergraduates): 09/24/2012 - 01/01/2013
Fall (Early Start Medical students): 08/27/2012 - 01/01/2013
Fall (Early Start Graduate students): effective date varies (check with SHS Insurance office), coverage ends 01/01/2013
Fall (all other Graduate & Professional students): 09/24/2012 - 01/01/2013
Winter (all students): 01/02/2013 - 03/27/2013
Spring (all students): 03/28/2013 - 09/22/2013
