In order to make an appointment with one of our dietitians, you will need a referral from your primary care provider at Student Health Services, your psychiatrist at CAPS, or a Health Educator in Health Promotion Services.

    May Rees (she/her/hers) earned her B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from University of California, Davis. After moving to San Diego, she went on to pursue an M.S. in Nutrition for Wellness at Bastyr University, California, and then her dietetic internship. She spent the first few years of her career working in the adolescent eating disorder treatment setting before joining UCSD Student Health in 2020. May focuses on providing weight-inclusive care with the goal of focusing on health-promoting behaviors. She is also passionate about integrating principles of intuitive eating and maintaining a holistic perspective in her work with clients. In her free time, you can find May enjoying live music, gardening, traveling, cuddling with her dog, and spending time in the sunshine.

    Jenna Richter (she/her/hers) received her B.S. in Nutrition Science from California State University Northridge. She then completed her dietetic internship and Master's in Dietetics from Iowa State University. Jenna spent the first few years of her career in the inpatient, and long-term care settings in San Diego. Since 2020, and up until joining the UCSD Student Health team in 2025, Jenna worked with both adults and adolescents struggling with eating disorders. Jenna believes in progress over perfection, and that food is not just fuel; it can be a source of joy, cultural connection, and satisfaction to support both mental and physical well-being. In her spare time, Jenna enjoys reading in the sunshine, yoga, travelling, and perfecting her chocolate chip cookie recipe. 

  • Kara Sansone

    Kara Sansone

    Registered Dietitian

    Kara received her M.S. in Nutritional Science at San Diego State University. Following her graduate studies, she completed a distance dietetic internship through Iowa State University. She began her career as a Clinical Dietitian with Rady Children’s Hospital and Sharp Healthcare. Kara strives to use integrative and intuitive eating health principles to implement nutrition goals in a way that is flexible and sustainable. She emphasizes a healthy balance between the science of nutrition and finding enjoyment with food.  She is excited to join the Student Health Services team and serve the university population. In her free time, you can find Kara traveling, hiking, going to the beach, skiing, and spending time with her husband and two children.
