Dental Dams
A dental dam is a thin latex square that is placed on the vulva or the anus when the mouth, lips, or tongue are used to sexually arouse a partner. Like the condom, the dental dam helps prevent fluids from being exchanged between partners and helps prevent skin-to-skin contact which is important for sexually transmitted infection (STI) protection.
When using a dental dam, always keep the same side down on the vulva or anus and do not re-use. If you do not have a dental dam, you can use non-microwavable plastic wrap, or cut open a condom lengthwise.
When using lubricant with a dental dam, make sure the lubricant is water-based and NOT oil-based.
