Lubricant

When using lubricant with safer sex products such as condoms and dental dams, only use a water-based lubricant such as KY lubricant.

Do not use oil-based lubricant such as petroleum jelly, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, yeast creams, or prescription vaginal cream as they can weaken and damage condoms or dental dams.

Lubricant is important for safer sex because it makes condoms and dental dams less likely to break. Lubricants can also enhance pleasure. For example, a drop of lubricant can be placed inside a condom or on the dental dam (the side facing the vulva or anus) to enhance pleasure while still being safer.
